General Discussion / Need a Ride - ATV Suggestions?
« Last post by bambu on March 15, 2016, 04:35:05 am »
Hey I'm Duncan. I don't live in Virginia quite yet but am finalizing a move to Richmond as that's where most of my partners family live. I'm a novice when it comes to off-roading but am quite keen to get into it as a side hobby seeing as there's meant to be some good places for off-road trails across VA. Me and my partner currently just car share a '99 Mustang so I don't have an off-road vehicle as of yet. I can't afford a big expensive 4WD so was after some kind of ATV. Just wanted to see what peoples general suggestions on a good, cheap, reliable ATV and where I can look to buy? Maybe there's a 2-wheeler bike that's good for off-road as I'm not too keen on the quad style but am open to suggestions. Rokon had popped up as a 2-wheel option but I don't know too much about them. Just checking out some prices for used Rokon's now and trying to find out a bit more info.

I’m Jim Link and I recently joined the VA4WDA because my family and I recently moved from the great offroading state of Arizona to Fredericksburg, Virginia.  In Arizona I was a “special project” committee member and had previously held the position of Vice President of the local club, the Cochise County Range Riders.  I was also a member of AZ State 4WD Associations and clubs, served on local land use boards, as well as worked closely with the local Coronado National Forest Rangers Office to help insure continued use of open land and trails here in Arizona.  My wife, Colleen and I were very active and generally went offroading at least twice a month.  Last year we did 18 trails plus eight additional events such as trail clean ups, trail repairs, toys for tots, BBQ’s etc..  Of those 18 trails we led 8 of those runs.  Most of the time I drive, but Colleen does put down the camera and drive too...

We currently wheel my daily driven 2011, Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with a 4 inch frankenlift which includes; Teraflex upper and lower control arms, Synergy track bars, drag link, and tie rod, 35” Cooper STT Pro tires, 4.88 gears, Eaton front E-locker and rebuilt (w/ modified disc pack) trac-lok rear limited slip diffs, JCR dagger front bumper, AEV rear bumper, 12,000 lbs winch, sliders, Artec cross member, and front axle truss and armor kit, a diablo sport to flash the speedometer and to monitor temps.  I am sure there are a few other mods that are slipping my mind…

Rather than attach photos yet, here is a url/link to a photo album that shows our Jeep and some of the trails we've done:

Just seeing this, sorry for the delay.

Saw updates on FB that indicate the private property owners have gated off their sections. Look forward to any updates you have, Phil.

Thanks.
